Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, all the shells are use- are real, with their real colors and patterns. I just clean them and rinse them with fresh water before I use them in my art. Some shells I also soak in bleach+ water solution to get rid of extra calcination.
I pack artworks in kind of styrofoam layered cakes style crate. As you can see in the pictures artwork has a foam board background, then the layer of styrofoam on the sides to elevate next foam board above the highest of seashell in the artwork, then follows the layer of foam board. After this I add cardboard corners, bubble wrap and then pack it in box. I add «FRAGILE» stickers all over the box.
No, I cannot guarantee this, but most of the time nothing unglues during shipping. 95 percent of times- my artworks arrived in perfect condition with every single piece in its place. In every big artwork its hundreds of elements so sometimes ( extremely rare) one or two pieces can come off- I this case I give you step by step instructions how to fix it back.
Once your artwork is framed and under glass-its protected from damage, stains, etc and you can enjoy it for years.
No, frame is not included and I prefer to ship artworks without frames. There are few reasons for this. First, the frames for this type of artwork are shadowbox type- with glass. It is insecure to ship artwork with glass, as glass is extremely fragile, and so are the shells, if glass breaks during shipping- it can damage the artwork.
Another reason- is that it adds a lot of weight and extra centimeters, which add a lot of cost for the shipping
And third one- I believe every home is unique and its always better if you choose the frame in your local framing shop, maybe with their professional recommendations , specially for your interior.
Also I am super happy to give you recommendations from my experience about frame’s brands, color, material.
I glue the shells with Transparent contact adhesive, of 3M, Pattex or UHU brands. This type of glue does not leave any traces around and to my mind is truly reliable, as some of my first artworks leave with me in our boat for over 8 years now, surviving some good shakes on the waves and not a single one fell off so far.
The paper I use is 300 gsm cotton paper, for the extra big circles I use 640gsm cotton paper extra white color. I love the structure and soft finish of its surface. Its acid free professional paper.
I usually ship artworks via UPS or DHL. I trust these couriers, everything always comes fast, unopened, undamaged.
As my current location is Bali, Indonesia, so its pretty far from US and from European countries, so the shipping from here is not cheap.
Dimensions of artwork if the factor which affects the shipping cost most, usually its not weight, but dimensions which is the main criteria
